There is lots to do in the Spring in Shropshire. When you are not enjoying the stunning Old hall gardens (they are at their best in late April and May) there are a variety of Shropshire events and places to go to keep you busy.

The Severn Valley railway based in Bridgnorth runs regular steam and diesel trains at weekends throughout the Spring and nearly every day over the two-week Easter break There are also a series of special events through the Spring.  For more information visit Special events.

The Sabrina runs daily boat trips around the loop of the Severn in Shrewsbury from 11am through to 4.00pm, leaving on the hour and lasting 45 minutes.  It is a great fun way to see the town and hear a little about its and the river's history. Sabrina boat trips.

Shrewsbury Prison gives visitors  a unique and immersive prison experience. It was built in 1793 and closed in 2013, with over 200 years of history behind its walls including the country's last remaining Georgian prison. It is open daily and run guided tours around the prison. Shrewsbury Prison Tours

If you are interested in gardening and especially roses then a trip to David Auston roses is not to be missed. For over 60 years they have been growing English roses in their Shropshire family farm.  There is also a nice tea room there.  www.davidaustinroses

The Shrewsbury Farmers’ Market is held monthly on some Friday's and Saturday's (normally the first weekend in the month) in The Square, Shrewsbury throughout the Spring. for dates visit www.shrewsburyfarmersmarket.co.uk

For something a bit more unusual and if you don't mind a bit of walking then Hawkstone Park Follies is worth a visit. Set in 100 acres of Parkland, the Follies is a range of dramatic and rugged natural sandstone hills that were developed to include gullies, caves, towers and bridges, becoming one of the most visited landscapes in Britain during the 19th Century.  It is open most weekends in the Spring and school holidays.  www.hawkstoneparkfollies

Located in the old Victorian Music Hall and 13th Century Vaughan's Mansion, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery offers a family friendly museum experience that brings to life the Roman, Medieval, Tudor and Stuart eras and a selection of the most prominent local history of Shropshire.  It is also free entry. www.shropshiremuseums.org.uk
