Shropshire Vineyards
We are so lucky to have a growing selection of Vineyards in Shropshire-a fact which comes as something of a surprise to many visitors. Apart from wine tasting & tours of the vineyards, some are just as interesting for the history of the land on which they are sited. Below are a few of our suggestions for vineyards that are within easy reach of the Old Hall.
Only 4.5 miles from the Old Hall, Wroxeter Vineyard is situated by the ancient City of Uriconium and close to the river Severn. Vineyard tours can include lunch or afternoon tea, along with wine tasting.

*It may be worth considering combining a trip to Uriconium with a trip to the Vineyard. Uriconium is managed by English Heritage.
Kerry Vale sits on land with a great Roman pedigree, as well as Bronze Age funerary monuments, a druid road and a medieval settlement. Offas’ Dyke is just a field away. The vineyard just happens to be surrounded by the most lovely countryside too. Tours start in May & there is a great café on site in which to taste the vines and enjoy locally sourced food. Approximately 30 miles from the Old Hall. Contact details: 01588 620627. www.kerryvalevineyard.co.uk SY15 6HU
Just over the border into Staffordshire(but close enough to count as Shropshire we think!), Halfpenny Green celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, producing award winning still and sparkling English wines. There are wine tasting options every day and guided tours on Saturdays & Sundays throughout the year. Alongside a spacious restaurant there is also a shop and delicatessen & a Craft Village. Approximately 21 miles from the Old Hall Contact details: 01384 221122. www.halfpennygreen.co.uk DY7 5EP
A more recently established vineyard with a very Californian vibe to its production area. It is sited with incredible views across Shrewsbury to the Shropshire Hills-fascinating whatever the weather. Tours are on Fridays and Saturdays with knowledgeable wine sommeliers. Wines can be tasted in the fabulous The View restaurant, along with a menu based on modern British and classic French elements produced in house with the emphasis on locally sourced products. Approximately 13 miles from the Old Hall. Contact details: 01743 298444. www.hencote.com SY4 3AA
As well as vineyards Shropshire is very lucky to be home to the multi award winning Tanners, widely regarded as one of the best wine suppliers in the United Kingdom and renowned world wide. Tanners is still an independantly fourth generation family owned business. It is well worth a visit to their cellars and wine shop located at the bottom of Wyle Cop. It is a lovely experience to wander through the cellars and appreciate the variety of wines stocked and learn about their heritage. Tuesday to Saturday afternoons there is the opportunity to experience 'A Taste of Tanners'. A chance to sample some wine with platters of food to accompany. Please check their website for more information on this. www.tanners-wines.co.uk
